Fashion products come and go. What is ‘in’ today might be ‘out’ in fashion next year. But true fashion products always stay relevant in every decade. Why I call them ‘fashion product’ is because the majority of these clothing pieces are sold under the labels or custom patches of a fashion brand.

Whether it is the little black dress of Chanel, the trench coat of Burberry or the aviators of Ray-Ban, the most iconic fashion products are known by their brand name.

4.Fedora

Fedora has a long history in the fashion world. The first historical reference of fedora can be dated back to 1882 when French doyennes Sarah Bernhardt donned it in her play ‘Fédora’ and hence it got the name. However, it was Prince Edward who popularized the hat in 1924 and it became a fashion symbol after that.

The popularity of Fedora waned during the late 1950s when people started wearing more casual clothing and fedora didn’t fit the style of that time. But the hiatus was shot-lived and the American footballer and coach Tom Landry made it popular again when he was seen wearing fedora during his tenure as coach of Dallas Cowboys.

Fedora made strong resurgence in the fashion world in 1981 when Harrison Ford wore it in the first installment of Indiana Jones franchise. Fedora has remained a fashionable piece of clothing throughout these years and it still enjoys the status of class among the men and women.

5.Baguette

Just as the trench coat is an iconic product of Burberry, baguette is the bag that is sold under the label of Fendi. Baguette gave women a more stylish and convenient way to carry a handbag. Just when Fendi launched baguette in 1997, women were carrying it all over. Unlike the clunky handbags of that time, Fendi gave them a smaller bag that has a short strap which women can easily hang in their hands.

Ray-Ban aviators became popular after the American general started wearing them during the World War II. However, the invention of Ray-Ban Aviators has a backstory.

Ray-Ban aviators were developed by Bausch & Lomb (parent company of Ray-Ban at that time) in 1936. The glasses were made after the company collaborated with American army to design a new kind of glasses that could minimize the optical illusion that air force pilots would suffer during the flights.

This led to the invention of Ray-Ban Aviators which reduced the hues of sky on the eyes and made it possible for the pilots to see clearly during the flight. It was after Arthur Douglas was photographed in Philippines wearing the aviators that the glasses came into the limelight.

The popularity of aviators led Bausch & Lomb to launch Ray-Ban which began the production of aviators for the masses. Since then, the glasses have enjoyed a worldwide popularity and have featured in many famous films where Hollywood stars like Tom Cruise, Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren are seen wearing the aviators.
