Custom bottoms cover everything worn below the waist, from fleece joggers and mesh shorts to leggings, skorts and woven pants, printed or embroidered with your logo. Teams and businesses buy them to finish a uniform, stock a spirit store or kit out a crew in one matching look.
Here's the thing about bottoms, though. A tee that's a size too big still works. Pants that are a size too big slide down, bunch at the crotch and drag at the hem. That's why fit deserves more attention here than almost anywhere else in a uniform.
Rise, crotch and inseam: why lower-body fit is harder
Pants have to handle walking, bending, sitting, climbing and carrying, all at the joint where two legs meet the torso. Three measurements decide most of the comfort.
Rise is the distance from the crotch seam to the waistband. A low rise sits on the hips, a high rise at the natural waist. Too short a rise pulls down at the back when someone bends or sits.
The crotch curve and seat control how fabric moves with the hips. A gusset, a diamond of extra fabric sewn into the crotch, gives room to squat and climb. You'll find it on a lot of work and athletic pants for exactly that reason.
Inseam runs from crotch to hem. Too long and the pants drag and fray. Too short and they ride up when seated.
A pattern can look perfect standing still and pull hard across the seat in a squat. Stretch helps, but it won't rescue a poor cut. Before we'd sign off on a pant for a uniform program, we'd have a few people try samples, sit, climb stairs and load the pockets. That shows you waistband pressure and pocket sag a size chart never will.
Knit or woven?
Woven fabric like twill or canvas is stable, structured and tough against abrasion. Knit fabric like fleece or jersey stretches naturally. A bit of spandex adds recovery to either.
Three products on this page show how far apart bottoms can be. The Gildan SF100 Midweight Pocket Sweatpants use fleece and a relaxed cut. The TriDri TD651 Women's Luxe Leggings rely on high stretch and a close, high-rise fit. The Augusta Sportswear 805 Men's Wicking Mesh Shorts strip things back to light mesh for practice and camp. Same category, almost no shared engineering.
Choosing between the custom bottoms sub-categories
This is the hub page, so here's how we'd point you:
Sweatpants & Joggers: fleece or French terry with elastic waists. Joggers taper to a cuffed ankle, sweatpants usually have an open hem. Best for spirit wear, team travel and lounging.
Shorts: mesh, polyester and fleece shorts for practice, camp and casual uniforms. Inseams commonly run from about 5 to 9 inches, so check before ordering.
Skirts & Skorts: skorts hide a short under a skirt front, and pleated cheer skirts like the Augusta Sportswear 9145 Women's Pike Cheer Skirt live here too.
Leggings & Tights: high-stretch knits for studios, dance and running.
Woven Pants: twill, canvas and poplin for hospitality and business casual.
Two neighbors are worth knowing. Athletic Pants covers warm-up and track pants, often with zippered ankles so players can pull them on over shoes. And for plant, warehouse and construction crews, Work Pants is built around durability and safety requirements.
Fleece basics from Gildan and Hanes cover a lot of the jogger and sweatpant range, while Augusta Sportswear carries much of the team shorts and cheer skirts.
Waist and inseam sizing
Knit bottoms usually come in letter sizes. That's simple for big groups but not very precise. Woven pants often come in waist and inseam, like 34 x 30, which fit better but take longer to collect.
For woven pants, ask each person for both waist and inseam.
For leggings and joggers, check the brand's hip measurement, not just the waist.
Unisex joggers follow men's sizing. Women's sizing is its own chart.
Youth sizes are separate runs, so confirm availability before you promise a school program.
Pockets change fit and decoration
Pockets add weight and seams. Cargo pockets swing when they're loaded. Side pockets pull at the seams when a phone goes in. Back pockets add layers to sit on. They also get in the way of logos, because the natural hip or thigh spot can land right on top of a pocket bag.
Logos on the hip, thigh and leg
Typical placements:
Hip or upper thigh: a small logo, roughly 3 to 4 inches wide, placed below the pocket opening.
Down the leg: a vertical word mark on joggers or leggings, sized to the leg width.
Back of shorts: small marks only. Anything large tends to stretch and crack.
Custom clothing printing is the right call for leggings, shorts and stretch fabrics, since the ink or transfer can move with the material. Custom embroidery suits fleece joggers and woven pants, which are stable enough to hold stitches. Our decoration method guide helps match method to fabric.
A short note on who wears what
What people wear below the waist has shifted a lot within living memory. The V&A's piece on Mary Quant's designs is a reminder of how contested short skirts and trousers for women still were in the 1960s. Read the V&A article on Mary Quant. Today the same category covers skorts for a tennis team and twill pants for a refinery crew, and nobody blinks.
How Houston wears bottoms
Our climate shapes this category more than any trend does.
Shorts for most of the year. From spring well into fall, camps, schools and leagues order shorts more than pants. Light polyester and mesh dry fast in the humidity.
Work pants for plants and warehouses. Petrochemical sites, distribution centers and construction crews usually require long pants. Durable twill with a bit of stretch makes a long shift easier. Check whether your site requires flame-resistant pants.
Fleece for short winters. Joggers and sweatpants sell for spirit stores, team travel and the few cold weeks around the holidays.
Restaurants and hotels. Staff often wear dark woven pants that hide stains.
Sizing, pockets and print: quick answers
How do I size woven pants for a big crew? Collect waist and inseam from everyone, then order a few spares in the most common sizes.
Will a hip logo clash with the pockets? It can. Place it below the pocket opening or on the other leg.
Should I print or embroider leggings? Print. Embroidery doesn't stretch with leggings.
Joggers or sweatpants for a team store? Joggers usually sell better for everyday wear. Open-hem sweatpants are easier to pull over shoes.
