An FR polo is for the engineer, the inspector or the sales rep who sits at a client's table in the morning and walks the plant after lunch. The site wants FR on anyone past the gate. A heavy button-front work shirt is fine for the walk, but it looks out of place at the meeting table. That's the gap custom FR polo shirts fill. FR stands for flame-resistant. Right now this section holds one style: the Bulwark SMP8, which we turn into FR polo shirts with logo on the chest.

What Do You Get in the Bulwark SMP8?

Here's the thing: with one style in the section, it pays to read its listing closely. This is what the product details say, in the listing's own terms:

  • Flame-resistant
  • 6.5 oz./yd² (220 g/m²). That's fabric weight: ounces of fabric in one square yard. Higher reads heavier.
  • Swiss Pique, a textured knit (the bumpy surface you see on most polos)
  • 45% Modacrylic/ 35% Lyocell/ 20% Aramid
  • Three-button
  • Colors: Grey and Navy

The short description also lists moisture management, which is the term for fabric meant to pull sweat off the skin, plus pockets.

One line you should know about: the listing reads "NFPA® 2112 Compliant CAT 2 Arc Rating EBT 8.2 calories/cm²". NFPA 2112 is the flash-fire standard a site may ask for, CAT 2 is a PPE category, and the arc rating is how much arc-flash energy the fabric blocks. So before you buy for a team, compare the garment label with what your site requires. Whoever sets the PPE (protective gear) rules for your site can tell you what it needs. An FR polo that doesn't match the site rule won't get anyone through the gate.

Custom FR Polo Shirts or a Regular Work Polo: Who Needs Which?

Not everyone in the company needs this shirt. If your office staff never go past the gate, a standard polo from our work polo shirts section does the job, and there are far more styles and colors to choose from there.

The FR polo is for the people who do go in but still sit across from customers: engineers, safety coordinators, inspectors, the sales rep who visits the plant. For crew members who spend the whole day on the unit, the FR T-shirts and FR woven shirts sections are worth a look too.

One mix-up comes up a lot. People think a hi-vis polo and an FR polo are the same thing. They're not. Hi-vis is about being seen, FR is about flame. Different job. Check which one your site asks for, or whether it asks for both.

Sizing Before You Order

Does the SMP8 run big or small? It's the first thing buyers want to know. The size chart on the product page answers that better than we can. It goes by chest circumference, in inches: M 38–41, L 41–45, XL 45–49 1/2, 2XL 49 1/2–54, 3XL 54–58 1/2. Have each person measure around the chest and match the number. Two minutes.

Two more things to know. The smallest size listed is M, so there's no S. And the style name on the listing is Men's CoolTouch®2 Classic Polo; there isn't a women's FR polo in this section right now.

How Does a Logo Go on an FR Polo?

With more care than on a regular polo. Decoration on FR has tighter rules: approved thread, transfers or patches only, and only in approved spots. The logo stays compact, and it never covers the FR label or anything else printed on the garment. And we won't claim a logo leaves the FR protection as it was. That needs a confirmation we don't have here.

For the SMP8, the decoration profile on the listing allows embroidery and printing, on the left chest or the right chest. We'd embroider it. A left-chest logo (the usual spot, roughly 3 to 4 inches across) looks right on pique and reads clean across a meeting table. The right chest is there if you want a second mark, like a department name.

Your logo gets digitized first. In plain words, our team redraws it as a set of stitch instructions for the embroidery machine. Fewer thread colors help tiny details stay sharp.

Off the machine: on the grey polo, a light grey outline in your logo can almost vanish. Ask us for a darker thread in that spot.

You'll see a mockup first: an image showing your logo placed on the shirt, for your OK. Sending art? Have a look at our Artwork Acceptance Policy, which we follow for each file, and our Spoilage Policy, which applies to the garments we decorate.

Ordering FR Polo Shirts with Logo for a Small Team

One polo is fine. There's no minimum, so you can dress a single engineer now and add a new hire later with the same logo. Grey and navy, different sizes, one order. The price depends on how many polos you need, your logo's stitch count (every stitch in the design added up) and whether a second spot gets added.

Timing comes in two steps. Proof: 2–3 working days. Your go-ahead on that proof starts the clock, and a small polo order is then on our machines for 7–10 working days. For an entire site team, ask us for the schedule first, then set the date.

Put the count, the colors, the sizes and your logo on our quote request, and we'll reply with a quote for the SMP8 carrying your logo. Curious what else Bulwark makes for us? The brand page has it. The rest of our work range starts at workwear.

Not sure about grey or navy, or the size? Get one polo for the person who'll wear it most. If it makes it through a week of meetings and walk-downs, it'll work for the rest of the team.
